Im so much better than you!

A man flat out stated that he was better than me the other day [in reference to my work]. All I could do is laugh. In my opinion, to put yourself in front of any other man - is to question his history, education, passion and his abilities. What a high horse you must be on to judge someone that much, with such little knowledge of them. I bow down to your arrogance oh great one. Please, teach me the science of aesthetic.

So I don’t know anything about this person or the situation that led up to this moment but, have you thought about winning them over? I was thinking about how I would react and besides punching them in the face (j/k), I’d ask him why he thought he was better. Everyone has something yet to learn, so then maybe ask to have a design challenge, or better yet, work on something together and see how you contribute together. It may be an opportunity to turn this situation and improve a relationship or help convert a lost sole to the right side of the design force. Think of Yoda personally working with Vader before he was converted to an outcast. On a final note, some advice on constructive criticism would really help this fellow. It’s something the majority of professionals have to deal with on a daily basis… “Ok, so you think this piece sucks… now tell me why.” Bring them into your process and you may walk away with an ally. Good luck!

Hahhaah... that's pretty funny... in all honestly, when I read that, All I can think of was, "well you might be better, but at least I have spirit," Meaning, your art has your soul in it... His probably doesn't ^_^;;

I say cap him.

It's one thing to have confidence in your own abilities, it's another to be a giant fucktard about it.

Did he view your entire collection of work, or did he base his arrogant ignorance on a single piece?

'Who is better', on an artistic level, cannot be quantified, given that art is subjective. However, anyone who says some shit like that is not better than anyone on any level that matters.

I say cap him twice.

Hahhah. Man. Well, to Sizzle: Yeah, he knows me, and I know him. We know our abilities and our limitations, for the most part. I first got to know the guy when he was struggling as a designer. But, as most people that suck get, when they get "alright" at their craft, their head expands and so does their mouth. I was never really offended by his statement... more... enlightened... as to what I never choose to be.

Tatsu: Thnx man. I think spirit and drive make good some damned good art.

Daft: Man... done, and done. That fool is VENTED! :P But yeah, who is to decide is better... not I... probably the consumer, I would assume. But I think that once youve come to the point, when you can bo so arrogant, you should prolly just put down your medium a while and let your face deflate.

We're all still learning. And if your not, your STUCK.

Hey man that's fucking crazy that someone actually have the nerve to do such a thing/ it wouldn't happen in front of me I'd flip out on the dude/chick whoever it is....I can't stand it when someone will judge you just by a few pic's you've in referrance to sketching,sculpting,digit art, the works....I'm just trying to say that's fucked especially if you know the guy and have history with that person it's down right wrong for someone to even step like that I hope you took off some of his face or pride or just deflated his head for him....peace out man see you later.

i agree with bern. it comes down to why you do what you do. if you do it to impress, for ego, shit man, thats pretty much lame. honestly, it's nice when people say what you do is good, but real artists are critical to an absurd level. no matter how proud i am of a piece, i will always be able to find something i could have done better.

wwgd? i would prove the sucka wrong in so many ways his big fat head would spin. then i'd point out all the flaws i feel are in the work.

Art is too subjective a thing,that nobody can say something sucks without looking like an ignorant piece of shit,and when they do(I suspect)its because they arent able to express themselves, or have no outlet of aggression.Or they're just dickless dumbfucks.Some of Chagal's most famous works looked like a child cartoons.But I always got what he meant.Conveying your message doesn't always mean coloring within the lines,and as long as it's cathartic to you thats all that matters.and if your honest to your art,people will always respond.
