yah, thankfully she got the point and deleted the pics before koal had to. thank you steph! keep it real people!...oh, and what music do you all draw/paint/create to? anybody ever fool around with conte? i love conte. nate, have you done any painting? you should paint some of your fantasy drawings and send them to wizards of the coast.

the last time i drew something was when i was at gabes..what were we listening to hun? the cure, led zepplin, charlie parker, johnny cash, jimi hendrix and minus the bear i believe...usually its random, but mellow.. i adore ambient music as it relaxes me, radiohead is great for it...

Man... it all depends on what Im creating to. I love the "Requiem for a Dream" Soundtrack. I listen to alot of mellow music like; Minus the Bear, Radiohead, The Notwist, Postal Service, DNTEL, Explosions In The Sky, Muse... for the mellow stuff... and of course NIN. But then, I can also work well with some nice metal. Really depends. If its super tedious stuff that I have to think to, prolly mellow. If Im feeling angry or over inspired... metal. I love music.

minus the bear and radiohead, kaki king or pedro the lion or iron & wine. metal? the black dahlia murder, botch, darkest hour (undoing ruin is alblum of the year in my book) whats the best art food? i love to snack on dorito's black pepper jack, with mountain dew pitch black 2 or some good tea. twinkies,a pumpkin spice latte from starbucks rules too, and a pack of marb reds or american spirit organic. my favorite meduim is oils of course, but i like pens and pencils too. my fav artist is gustav klimt right now. kandinski owns as well.

i saw a couple of magmets for the fridge today of klimts. sketches of female nudes where the pencil doesnt leave the drawing.. i should go back and pick em up...food? tea is good, anything that is a "comfort" food really. chips, pop, chocolate//anything that will rot my teeth as i create i guess..right now i am drawing and eating rum n' raisin ice cream...

I prefer listening to the classical sound of Beethoven while imbibing my favorite chardonnay and eating beluga caviar

Well how else am I going to get those creative juices flowin? No, seriously though, I usually listen to some punk, old rock, or some sort of devil music that Brian brings over :). I've got to bust the Led out every once in a while too. While enjoying the soothing sound of Offspring, Bucket-Head, or Primus I like to sip on a 16oz, double, vanella, carmal latte'. That sounds so lame. I wish I was joking about that too. Or I'll just slam down a Monster for those cracked-out late night sessions. You know; the ones that last until 9pm or 10pm.

the devil music i bring that nate is speaking of is.. arch enemy, old man's child, fear factory, etc: seems most inspiring when drawing. but i also like electronic atmospheric type music - nin, radiohead, team sleep, etc - moslty when programming and needing to think..

I think it depends on what your tying to go for at least with me, I mean I even listen to stuff im not a fan of just to get a vibe going for whatever the project is. I think techo stuff or even Linkin Park, NIN is good for creating new things while hardcore/metal music is rad for action seq's or pictures, and like sound tracks to movies or music with alot of atmosphere for fantasy type stuff but then agian thats just me its all about the vibes I guess.

old mans child owns. i saw arch enemy last year too. i agree with brian, that metal for some reason is just the best to draw to. i think the speed of the music lends itself to the momentum of a mind in action. it adds urgency to what youre doing, which in turn gives the art a sense importance, neccesity. and i like to be stoned sometimes. but usually not, because the can be to much intensity.

ok I paint to pop music. Not that I like it or hate it but it's so catchy it pushes me to keep going and then I can't stop and I'll even sing along to nsync and madonna and whatever. I had a friend come over to my apartment and she pounded on the door and thought I had lost my mind because of the Backstreet boys spewing out of my stereo. It's something I can tune out, for the happier pieces, guns, sex etc. If I ever do something on war, which I've been flirting with, I'll probabbly go with at least greenday or iron madien or gwar.... billy idol gets the best results...

i like to listen to music i can sing along to like ella fitzgerald, nina simone and billie holiday. i like the mood of that old time jazz. it's depressing but not overtly. to me, theirs is the type of music you could hang yourself to.

i'm also obsessed with masonia - a local australian rock band whose epic ballads i'm obsessed with. do you ever find lyrical imagery crossing over into your visual mode of representation? i do and thats why i think this was an interesting topic. cheers folks.

hmm. usually what I am adoring at the moment. now being The Decemberists. I like to constantly be listening to new music. new obviously meaning...things that are recently discovered by myself. you unknowingly attatch emotions to music, and to keep listening to the same stuff over and over is sticking yourself in a moment. new music keeps me fresh, and it leads me to art that I am more fond of.

I wish I could find my Beetlejuice Soundtrack...I used to listen to that all the time when I was a kid...back before CDs became THE THING. My first CD ever was Debbie Gibson Electric Youth...the bitch across the street stole that and my Electric Youth perfume. She was a real "See You Next Tuesday". But now she's just poor white methanphetamine trash. At least she had one nice thing in her life...too bad it was mine.

I like painting to Innagoddavida...at least that was what I did in high school...it's been a while. But now it's White Stripes (any of the three albums I have), Weezer...(any of all the albums I have) and AC/DC. Oh The Dead Milkmen is fun too!!! I wish I had Emilie Simon because her music is so pretty.

I have a wide variety of music influences. When I'm creating something, I prefer to listen to something ambient like electronica (BT, Daft Punk, Avalanches, Groove Armada, Chemical Brothers, etc.) or something that I don't know like underground/obscure hip-hop (Swollen Members, Del Tha Funky Homosapien, Moka Only, De La Soul, Jurassic 5, etc.). I don't like to be distracted by music that I know... I have a tendency to want to sing along instead of focusing on what I'm doing.

Found a new website recently that I think you all should check out. It's PANDORA [/URL] is a website that will create an internet radio station based on input for you. Put in an artist or a specific song, and it will create a station of similar music based on your input. It fucking rocks.

I personally will try to listen to music that goes along with what I'm drawing, like rage against the machine when I'm drawing a twisted villain or even closer by NIN while I draw the lovely female characters in my story...some times I even slip into a jazz mood while drawing. Food on the other hand is a big no no for me I can't have food on my fingers when I draw it makes my stomach turn. but I will indulge in a nice big mug full of thai chi tea or earl grey much like what nate said about doing what makes your body relaxed...when other kids had video games and sports to play I had a desk made out of oak that my father made for me and a old radio, paper and a wooden pencil with nothing but time to pour my soul out. oh and my trusty lamp which would be the only light in the room while I was coming unhinged from reality....good times good times.

I love working to music. Life should have a sound track! I like all types, but find that for me music with no lyrics works best. I guess subconsciously I am imagining (colors, mood, style) all with the tempo and sounds of music. When lyrics are in a song, then I end up listening to them and imagining what is being described to me, rather than allowing myself to imagine. With that being said, I prefer electronic, ambient type music. The layered, dynamic and repetitive sounds work very well. Here are some of the better artists:
Hybrid (these guys are sick. For being DJ’s they have such an epic sound!) They have even worked with the Russian National Orchestra. Check out the track Beachcoma. It’s the track I used in my demo reel on my website. (long-ish download time- sorry)
Theivery Corporation (all their music is great) they have a chilled out lounge feel combined with aspects of latin roots and a touch of reggae.
Kruder & Dorfmiester, Way out West, tons more. Here are my Pandora stations:
